This week I’ve been trying to concentrate on some spinning. I’m mightily pleased with myself as I have finally got to grips with long draw, a method of drafting the fibre that produces a more fluffy and airy yarn. It speeds up production too, which is a fine bonus !
My first skein…, some undyed Bluefaced Leicester..
Uneven, yes…but still a major breakthrough for me. And it’s so squishy and bouncy, I can’t stop feeling it. This yarn is probably destined for my Grandfathers Christmas mittens when I’ve dyed it up.
Got a bit of dyeing done too and should be updating the shop over the weekend.
I’ve had an order of fibre in too, with some new lovelies to try such as Teeswater and Masham longwools. They are very similar to Wensleydale and I look forward to see how they compare, dye and spin up. Have also got some gorgeous grey Merino and a sumptuous angora/tussah silk blend. I nearly swooned when I saw that in the flesh, I can tell you ! I love angora so much. Plus some soft white Shetland as well as the usual suspects already in the shop.
Busy times ahead then. I’ll hopefully do another dye session next week and try out all the goodies.
I’ll leave you with more fluffy goodness and wish you a very happy weekend !
