..hence scant posts lately. Not feeling very inspired here at all. It's been a nice relaxing time however with Nick using up some annual leave and me off work last week.
We have just been mooching about really, getting little jobs done. As we speak he is at the dump, offloading a winters worth of crud from the back yard. As the weather is getting a bit milder we just had to tackle it.
We've also finally sorted out loads of Maddies younger age toys and donated most to the charity shops and the hospital where I work. The cds have also been purged, I keep most of the music on my mp3 player and honestly can't remember when I last listed to a cd, apart from in the car.
It feels great to clear out all the excess. I had been putting it off for ages, especially Maddies things, I'm a sentimental old thing at heart. It has enabled us to make a lot more space in one of the downstairs rooms, turning it into a bit of a playroom with all her stuff accessible. She loves it in there and is rediscovering long buried toys.
we got out for a walk and delighted in the signs of Spring
The sun stayed out over the weekend and we even hit the beach. I'll get some pics up soon !
It's wonderful to be able to throw the doors and windows open at last and give this place an airing, lets hope this is the start of something good (weather gods, do you hear me?)...
PS. If this post seems a little disjointed I apologise...I've been trying to get it uploaded since Friday and added a few bits this morning. Just part of the ongoing struggle with Typepad and my laptop (I won't explain further as it's pi**ing me off too much even to go over it :) Think screen freezes x 100.
The other night I got in from work, fancying a bit of a snack.
only to find someone had got there first......looks like the work of Maddie (miss 'drag a chair over and help herself'...)
Then this morning, I catch this sight out of the corner of my eye whilst rushing out of the door..
believe me, this is just a fraction of the mess in the front room. It's got to have been Wilf but the girls knew nothing about it. Of course. Despite the fact that they were downstairs when this happened, as I was having a quick shower. I didn't dare widen the angle any more, as it would show all the mess that is not Wilfs fault ;) You'll just have to use your imagination.
Kettle is on, toaster at the ready...I'm going to make myself a stiff coffee first and then tackle it and the 6ft pile of laundry to fold. My plan had been to rinse and hang all the sock yarn I dyed up yesterday but as usual, little somethings get in the way !
So grab a coffee and take a deep breath.............and have a lovely weekend !
......for my wool order to come. You can guarantee it'll turn up when I go on the school run. I'm itchy to get dyeing.......come on, come on...
it is wet, really wet.
And inside....we are pottering and chillin'..
and tidying and making....
half an hour later...
hee, hee ! Now I'm scared to open it, as that means I have to create something beautiful out of it. Ohh, the possibilities. Right, I think a cup of tea is in order to calm myself :)
With all the lights half price in Sainsbury's, I wasn't going to fight it.
You can never have too many white Christmas lights in my opinion (all year round).
I finally got the curtains up in this room. Very special curtains that have been with me for as long as I can remember. We had them in our house in Cornwall when I was very little and for some reason they remind me of Christmas and feeling cozy. I must have had them up in every house I've lived in (a lot !).
It's actually nice enough to sit in here, now I've cleared a pile of junk away . I may have to sit and knit this afternoon and soak up the ambience. What a thought.
Nothing like fairy lights and nostalgia to warm the soul.
This is the tea cupboard...
actually, that's only about half of it. Further on it disintegrates into a tea/coffee/cafetiere/tea pot/tea cosy craziness, only rivalled by my Dad's cupboards (another tea and coffee hoarder, it's obviously in the genes).
I am relatively simple to please when it comes to drinks. Earl Grey first thing in the morning, always. Coffee mid morning, always. Possibly Lapsang Souchong in the afternoon if I'm feeling in the mood (Nick refuses to make it as he says the bonfire smell makes him feel sick...), but basically I'll drink anything at any time beyond those first two cups of the day.
Lily however is a different matter. She does not drink enough, full stop. It's a constant battle to get her to finish drinks and we chase her constantly. Neither can she make a decision about what to have. It may be a question of too much choice...
I came home from work the other night, wandered into the kitchen trying to decide what would be a relaxing refreshment before bed. Something caught my eye...
so I did....
perfect choice ! Pure genius Lily.
The weird thing is...the random choice is bang on target all the time.
Or maybe turquoise, whatever, I've been attracting it. Within two days of me being home I was given this great cup (now the favourite of my favourites) as a thankyou for pussycat feeding..
scored the above fabuloso duvet cover and four pillowcases for a steal in one of my frequent charity haunts, now in situ on the
dogs bed back room sofa, where it really brightens up the space. Who knows I may even get round to painting one of the walls in there a beautiful duck egg, which was the plan in the first place until I was put off by doubting Thomases (too cold, gloomy, think of what it will be like in the winter etc, etc..!)
Anyhow, for now the cover provides the colour and it's just right..
then these cotton beauties came my way a day later - charity shop, of course..
Plans for these divine colours? I'm not sure..but I can feel a crochet trip coming on. At the moment I'm busily trying to finish off a bit of knitting which seems to be taking for ever, I really need to squeeze in a row whenever I can rather than waiting for the 'perfect' time to sit down, as that never happens. I'm not being deliberately secretive about it, it's just that I can't really stretch it out to show it properly as there are too many stitches on the needle. It's a very simple shawl , I'll tell you that much. As I've decided to add a crochet edge it may be some time before it graces the screen ;)
It's also made more difficult with a dog on your lap.
Good day ! Hope you are all bright and breezy ?
hmmm, better wash that pan again.....
which is not doing much for motivation. Nor is the fact that I'm working 6 out of the next 8 evenings and overnight on calls, starting tonight. Mind you, after that we're all off on holiday to my Dads in Cornwall so that will keep me going.
and maybe indulge in some biscuit making (batch of 20 made yesterday already gone - yikes..) but we will see.
Right, it's got to be time to wake daddy up, so I'm sending Maddie in all guns firing ..heee, heeee.
Have a relaxing Sunday !
I am making such a meal of this.
Still haven't learnt not to decorate in new black clothes...(I did save this one with a quick scrub under the tap). I take the Nigella approach. I'll never forget marveling at how she dared to prepare beetroot soup whilst wearing a white denim jacket with not even the sleeves rolled up. The ultimate in casual, hair tossing, decadent, who cares- just do it meal preparation. Unfortunately, I don't have her money and really need to not deliberately put my clothes in the firing line...........time to get changed....
next week there will be more interesting stuff, I promise (if you call knitting attempts and charity shop items exciting that is !)
Enjoy the weekend, lets hope it's sunny...
....amid the chaos....
.....even managed a bit of the above - hurrah.
That stern talking to from myself seems to have done the trick....I may even be able to post a crafty work in progress soon ! Mind you, blogging about how well I'm progressing with a project seems to be the kiss of death, as all work on it ceases at that point...anyone else find this ?
