..the joys of blogging

I've just lost a whole post.  I  pressed save and it disappeared.  Seriously.

It was long, it was nice. I'm tired and it's late. I'm busy and won't have time tomorrow.  I'm p***ed off.

I don't know why I'm having this trouble - ever since Typepad was redesigned it's just not been working right.  It's not that I'm having trouble using the new format.  It seems more that the browser isn't stable whilst using it, causing freezes and ultimately not doing what it should - saving the post. It literally disappeared off into the ether.  I've been copying all the text whilst writing just in case this happens (but of course not tonight...it was all going to well to worry about that, right?)

Oh well, the story of my nice day will have to wait till next week. I'm grumpily going off to bed.

Have a good weekend and I'll see you less grumpy on Monday :)

P.S Sorry to moan......so much for keeping this a positive space , eh !?  It's not the end of the world I know - but still darned annoying.

Sleep, sleep is what I need......yeeesssss................try again another day.

Saturday................before the rain kicked in.  Dad visited and we got out with the dogs round the local country park.  Lily learnt new tricks from Dads boyhood, this one involved making a popping sound with a leaf.  You have to position it just so, quite a tricky manouvre!  Lily is now an expert.  I fail miserably every time.

New bracken unfurling.  I love the shape of the leaves, almost alien like.

A gentle and relaxing holiday weekend really.  It rained, yes, but we've come to expect that !  I got almost nothing much else done.  Worked a shift, walked the dogs, ignored the mending pile, pottered.  Nice.

Maybe I'll get my sewing and crafting mojo back soon, who knows.  It's just been busy with all sorts of other good  things  recently.  It's half term after all.  In fact the little one  had no pre school  last week either, due to an admin week or something.  Oh, and of course the arrival of Wilf - how could I forget ?

settling in

DSC_0946_1024x681

I had a great long story planned for this post but what with the problems uploading photos and all the re writing, I'll admit my initial enthusiasm has receded slightly !

All problems seem to be sorted out now as long as I change my browser for the job, which is not a major problem apart from being a bit slower ;)

Ok, back to how I ended up with another dog.

A few weeks ago, late in the day, we decided to go visit our local animal rescue 'just to have a look'.

Fatal.

There was a most gorgeous lurcher girl in there who was the spit of Harry, only smooth haired.  She had a sad story and was pining for her 16 yr old mate and  3 yr old daughter who had been rehomed separately (but together if you see what I mean) and she was left.  People amaze me , they really do. If you're taking two dogs, especially one that's 16 yrs old - how could you have the heart to leave the poor Mum...?

Anyway, I digress.  To cut a long story short, we were 9/10ths of the way through the adoption process when the centre rung me about an 'incident' involving a cat.  She had lived with cats before and was fine but she'd obviously had a change of heart.  The centre were unwilling for me to even try her (muzzled) for a while to see how she went at home (they are often fine with 'their own' cats).

So that was that.  Upset and disappointed, especially Lily.

So, before we (Nick !) went off the boil I contacted GRWE looking for another lurcher. After a homecheck they told me they had a young dog in kennels in my home town!  He sounded like 'the one' . It happened really fast after that.  One look into those big brown eyes and I knew he was coming home.  A stray, found wandering, he  was  underweight and out of condition.  No history known at all apart from that he was under 1 yr old, possibly as  young as 10mths.  He had a collar but no tag and there had been no enquiries about him locally or further afield.

One week on and I can't imagine him not being part of the family.  There's been the odd snarl up between the boys, with Harry showing just who's  top dog but nothing major.  Harry is coming around to the idea that another dog around can be fun - just look at them playing.

Wilf is all I had hoped for, loving, cuddly, follows me around like a shadow, good off the lead, has  recall (when it suits, like all lurchers - but pretty good), house trained and fantastic with the cats (ignores most of the time) and kids.  He actually  seeks Maddie out to sit with her  and  she spends a lot of time on his bed curled up with him or 'doing his hair'.

Well, I guess I did end up doing a 'longer' version, hopefully not too long :)  If you want to find out any more about greyhounds and lurchers, please visit the site I linked to earlier in the post.
It's such a shame that  these gorgeous dogs are so  appalingly  treated by unscrupulous people within the racing industry.  Breaks my heart.

a little delay..

due to the new Typepad 'improvements' not working very well with the Opera browser.  Serves me right for having to be different eh ?!

I had no problems before but since the changes I can't upload my pictures to a post.....it sort of starts, then gets stuck........for ever.

Anyhow, I've been here a long time and had at least 3 frustrating attempts, and lost the text (more than once) before I had a chance to save.  So that's it for now.  Wilfs story will have to wait till next week when I'll hopefully have sussed out the problem.  Internet Explorer (which I'm using now) works better with the photos but has crashed a couple of times in the process.  I guess now is just not the time to do this post !!

I'll try and find something pretty to put here, so as not to leave you without anything to look at...please don't crash, please don't crash......

DSC_0721_1024x681 phew.....I think we made it .

A lovely bright and colourful pile of summer mending and altering.  I really must do it rather than just look at it .

See you next week and have a lovely weekend (and a great birthday Jim !)

Maddie seems to want to folllow in Lilys footsteps...I'm going to end up living at ballet/tap/modern class. Lils started at about Maddies age. It's a lot of work on top of school, especially at exam time and when there's a show to rehearse for. I'm not going to rush to get her in there - she's happy joining in from the back of the class.....for now.....long may it last !

purple flounce

Got to show you this divine little top I happened across at a car boot last year. Hand made and fabulous...I have got to try and make one similar. I'm not very good at sussing out pattern pieces from made up clothes but I think it would be worth the brain strain. It's made of (I'm guessing) a light weight poly/cotton and it drapes so well and comes off the line with absolutely no creases. Maddie has really taken a shine to it too and my heart leapt when she chose it 2 days running. A very rare honour indeed.
Clothes pickiness has started, much to my dismay. At the moment it's absolutely no trousers... - so she can be 'spinderella' as she calls herself whilst twirling. Trousers, shorts or leggings cause a major freak out. You have no idea the tantrum I had on my hands after putting some beautiful cream linen trousers with this top. She wanted to wear it as a micro mini. I stuck my ground - but she removed them the minute we got back into the house.

find of the week

Hasty post this, don't know where the week has gone.... Just thought I'd show you my bargain of the year so far ;)

Dsc_0656_800x532

Last Sunday Maddie did her usual 'lets save the really early wake up for the day no one has to get up' routine and I found myself up dressed, fed and watered by an ungodly hour. Nothing for it but to head on out to the local car boot where die hards had been wandering since 0530.
I spied the above beauty in a filthy condition and held my breath with excitement as I awaited the asking price.

£ 3 , yes you read that right :)

Back home and fully scrubbed with Flash, de - linted ( there was a load of that) and oiled, she's working like a dream. The same make as mine too, so bobbins and feet can be shared. It's Lilys of course and she's very proud. My old Singer I gave her for her 10th birthday promptly broke down on the first outing, so she's been waiting a long time.

It's crochet frenzy here too. Lils has been knocking these out at speed to sell at the summer fete at school. Beaded bracelets, rings, necklaces and anklets to raise money for the NSPCC. Crochet club is up and running and the production line is hot !

my lucky day

I participated in a giveaway recently and got pulled from the hat ! My first time !

Elizabeth of Making Good Use was celebrating a whole year of blogging and had one of her gorgeous teacosies up for grabs. Pop over, say hello and see all the lovely things she makes.

Wrapped so beautifully.......

Thankyou again Elizabeth - be assured they will be put to very good use.

our little yard

We don't have a garden in the true sense of the word, with grass and stuff. It's a small walled yard with house on three sides and a lovely stone wall on the other. Picture opportunities are a bit limited in such a small place, hence a lot of photos of the washing line and wooden seat!
We do have huge double doors that open out fully from the playroom ( I mean sewing room...got that girls ;) so its a really nice extension out into the air from there. We are spending so much time at this end of the house, I've almost forgotten what the front room looks like.
I'd love to have a huge lawn and be able to grow other things than container plants but I love our little yard. There are lots of tubs with scented geraniums and cacti (out all winter down here and surviving well), more geraniums and even more geraniums. I really like geraniums :)
It's a suntrap and you'll often find me out on the bench coffee in hand, grabbing a few minutes before re- entering the fray. In the evening it's positively Mediterannean, but that may be just my romantic notion... Can't complain at all.

Dsc_0659_1024x681
this bright blue piece of plastic was on my hitlist but seems to have come into it's own over the weekend. I'm just going to have to live with it..

Dsc_0663_1024x681
see, I did finish it!

Dsc_0596_1024x681

......and of course there's no mowing or weeding which means more time for alfresco dining!
